Rectified Sewage System

Rectification Works to Existing Sewage Systems

There are many properties or developments on private sewage treatment systems which now fall foul of the new environmental legislation. They may not be causing an obvious or physical problem to their owners but many are either illegal or breaching their Consent criteria.

It is now illegal to discharge septic tank effluent directly to a ditch or water course without any form of secondary treatment. Equally if the level of treatment from a sewage treatment system is insufficient, the system will fail to achieve the standards dictated by the EA, and the owner will be exposed to prosecution, substantial monetary fines and bad publicity.

Reed Bed Repairs

It is not always necessary (or cost-effective) to completely bypass the old system and totally replace with a new package sewage treatment plant. Often part or all of the existing structure can be used in the new system, reducing overall costs and maintaining continuity of drainage. For example existing septic tanks can be used as primary tanks in sewage treatment or in reed bed treatment schemes. An existing distributor can be upgraded by a media change, the installation of a recycle facility or conversion to a reed bed.
