If you want to discharge sewage or trade effluent directly into surface water, such as rivers, streams, canals, the sea, or onto land affecting ground water, you will almost certainly need to apply for a ‘discharge consent’. By issuing and reviewing consents, the Environment Agency can regulate the quality of the discharges in England and Wales to help protect water quality, the environment and Human health.
Each application is assessed for potential impacts on water quality, taking into account the views of members of the public and other interested parties who may be affected by the proposals. The EA also consult a number of statutory bodies, such as local authorities, water companies and Natural England.
You can take the hassle out of EA Consent to Discharge applications and instruct WCI to apply on your behalf, as your agent. WCI offers a ‘Consent to Discharge’ application processing service. This service includes drawing up your water interest survey and site plans, all liaisons with the EA, completion and submission of the application pack. The EA processing time for new Consent applications is currently four months from receipt of the application to its determination.
Contact WCI now to discuss your private sewage treatment system options and arrange a site visit (free for those situated within 50 miles of Wiveliscombe, otherwise there will be a charge for mileage only).
